Bryan Richard Cullen, Ph.D.

Bryan Richard Cullen, Ph.D. received an M.S. in Virology from the Queen Elizabeth Medical School, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, England in 1974 and then took a position as Research Technician at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, NJ.  While continuing at Roche, he entered the graduate program in Microbiology at the UMDNJ – Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Newark Division where he received his Ph.D. in 1984.  Following several years at Hoffman-La Roche, he joined the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke University Medical Center, where he recently was selected for a distinguished professorship at Duke and was awarded the named chair, James B. Duke Professor of Genetics.  Dr Cullen is Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Genetics and a member of the Duke Center for AIDS Research and the Duke Cancer Center.  He is an Associate Editor on the editorial board of several major journals, including Cell and the Journal of Virology.  His primary area of research is virology, specifically as related to AIDS and HIV.  Science listed Dr. Cullen as one of the ten most cited AIDS researchers in 1993.
