of Jersey City, New Jersey, received his Ph.D. in pharmacology in 1978.
His doctoral research examined the role of brain acetylcholine in cardiovascular
regulation. Following postdoctoral training at the Roche Institute
of Molecular Biology, Dr. Buccafusco joined the faculty at the Medical
College of Georgia, where he currently is Professor of Pharmacology
& Toxicology and holds a joint appointment as Professor of Psychiatry
& Health Behavior. He holds two patents for novel drugs potentially
effective in Alzheimer’s disease and is the organizer and Director of
the Alzheimer’s Research Center and the Animal Behavior Center at the
Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Buccafusco is a leading expert
in the role of brain acetylcholine in cognitive and neurological disorders,
and is the author of over 110 publications and numerous reviews and
book chapters.
